A float for a valve of the type used to control water flow into the tray of the humidifier is provided. Preferably the float comprises an elongated top, a skirt dependent downwardly from the top along its sides and at least one partition extending between spaced locations on the skirt to define at least one air cell on the underside of the float so that when the float is in water, air is trapped within the cell to provide buoyancy for the float valve. A float valve assembly is also provided having an inlet nozzle in association with a float preferably of the aforementioned type.
