A continuous closed-loop process for directly producing potassium chlorate by electrolysis of an aqueous potassium chloride solution with a metal anode is described. The process provides surprising advantages in efficiency by comparison with conventional double decomposition processes for producing potassium chlorate from electrolyzed sodium chloride. The metal anode is coated with a precious metal, oxide or alloy or a platinate. The aqueous solution is passed through a heat exchanger using a heated cooling medium which is at a temperatue below the equilibrium temperature of the solution in the cell but above the temperature atwhich potassium chlorate crystallizes from solutions of the …

Why it's free to use
- Granted January 29, 1985. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended January 29, 2002.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
