Abstract From the Canadian patent

The nitrogen content of shale oil is reduced by catalytic cracking and contacting the oil with an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid. The treated shale oil can be further processed to obtain a combustion fuel such as diesel fuel, gasoline and turbine fuel.
