A method of making absorbable surgical threads consists in treating cellulose threads with nitrogen oxides then treating these same threads with a protophilic solvent for 1 to 2 hours at a room temperature and holding them at a temperature of 70 to 90°C for 1 to 2 hours. The proposed method makes it possible to improve the strength of the absorbable surgical threads and to decrease their swelling property.
