An airflow sensor with a rectangularly shaped sensing vane is disclosed. The vane is pivotally mounted in a cylindrical bore perpendicular to the airflow direction of the sensor and yields an airflow signal proportional to its angular rotation. An air motor mechanically coupled to the vane maintains a constant pressure drop across the vane. The air motor assists in pivoting the vane by magnifying the force on the vane for changes in airflow. In one embodiment, a gas filled bellows modifies the positioning of the vane by the air motor to compensate for temperature and barometric variations.
