Abstract From the Canadian patent

A process for preparing a trifluoromethylphenol and trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ether which comprises heating a trifluoromethylhalobenzene with a sodium benzylate to form a trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ether and optionally hydrogenolysing the ether. The trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ethers are new compounds useful for preparing trifluoromethylphenol and intermediate, in the preparation of psychotropic agents.
