Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention provides a 6.beta.7.beta.;15,16-dimethylene- 1,4-androstadien-3-one of the general formula I, in which the 15,16-positioned methylene group may be in the .alpha.- or .beta.-configuration and E represents a group of the formula, , or , and a process for the preparation thereof. Compounds of the invention have useful pharmacological properties, being, inter alia, diuretics of the aldosterone-antagonist type. Accordingly the invention, also provides a pharmaceutical preparation containing a compound of the general formula I.
