The present invention comprises a fire protective insulating device having at least one layer of resilient and compressible and preferably non-combustible insulating material which is compressed by a plurality of fastener means so as to increase the density of the insulating means. A scrim means for retaining the compressed insulative material is wrapped about the exterior of the compressed insulative material. At least a portion of the fastener means is constructed of a material which is substantially less resistive to high temperature than is the insulative material.
