A small, compact heating device for warming small quantities of edible liquid ready for consumption comprises a heat tube having an outer heat insulating layer covering its central, intermediate zone, and a heat source for heating the evaporator end zone. The device is used for heating liquid in a cup or similar container, by immersing the condenser end of the heat pipe in the bottom of the liquid in the cup, with the insulated portion contacting the liquid surface. The heating means is applied to heat the evaporator end of the heat pipe, and the heat is transferred by the heat pipe to the bottom of the liquid for efficient heating of the liquid ready for consumption.
