Abstract of the Disclosure, Chemical species including biological materials such as enzymes, substrates, antibodies, antigens and the like are, determined in very small quantities (down to picomole ranges) through the use of electromagnetic radiation generating reactions such as those catalyzed by light emitting enzyme systems of the bacterial luciferase and fire-fly luciferase types. The sensitivity of the detection systems is increased by concentrating and localizing at least one component of the electromagnetic radiation generating reaction onto a solid support material.
