A bale wagon having an improved bale-receiving means which is operable to deposit kales onto the bale-supporting means either on edge or on the flat is disclosed. A pusher mechanism including a bale-engaging member moves the bales on edge to the bale-supporting table or operates in conjunction with a bale-turning apparatus to rotate the bales 90 degrees axially prior to the transfer step. Swing arms within the bale-engaging member allow the selective 90 degree pivoting of bales necessary for the automatic formation of tie tiers.
