Abstract From the Canadian patent

A rapid rotating beater or soil-loosening roller for wet or dry carpet-claning apparatus which has a circular axial profile and a plurality of inclined angular projections defining between them annular grooves having widths of several millimeters. The roller is formed unitarily or at least in part of a shape-retentive (rigid) material and the grooves between projections lie along a cylindrical surface.
