The invention provides a method and apparatus for separating individual gases constituting a gaseous mixture by ejecting the mixture in a potentially expansive state at supersonic speed through a divergent nozzle and by allowing, it to deflect at angles characteristic of the ratios of specific heat of the constituent gases. To facilitate the separation, a separator screen is provided within the limit of the maximum deflection angle with respect to the constituent gases to be separated. In this way the gaseous, constituents can be separated efficiently and quickly.
