Abstract, The thermal cracking of a reduced crude oil residuum can be carried out on a continuous basis by heating the residuum under continuous flow to a temperature not exceeding 520°C and introducing this preheated residuum sequentially into a series of parallel reaction zones. The cracking is continued in each reaction zone by contact with a non-oxidative heat transfer medium; each zone being emptied at the completion of each reaction and re-filled with preheated residuum. The number of reaction zones, filling and reacting times are such as to allow continuous flow of preheated residuum.

Why it's free to use
- Granted August 19, 1980. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended August 19, 1997.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
