Anionic complexes of quaternary ammonium salts having an ethylenically-unsaturated radical and a lipophilic radical covalently linked to the quaternary nitrogen atom are disclosed. Examples of such complexes are allyl hexadecyl dimethyl ammonium dodecyl sulfonate allyl, hexadecyl dimethyl ammonium dodecyl benzene sulfonate and allyl dimethyl, dodecenyl hydroxysuccinyloxy ethyl ammonium dodecyl benzene sulfonate. These anionic complexes are useful as monomeric emulsion stabilizers.
