A magnetic shield which is provided to reduce stator core end heating in A.C. machine may also serve as a support structure for the end-turns of the stator windings. The shield is formed of small-diameter iron wire circumferentially wound in a matrix of epoxy-impregnated glass fibre material. The iron wire provides a low magnetic reluctance path in the circumferential direction at the core end. The higher reluctance path provided by the shield in the axial direction reduces the axial magnetic flux penetrating the core end.

Why it's free to use
- Granted June 24, 1980. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended June 24, 1997.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
