A novel bale forming machine is provided for picking up cut hay from a field and forming it into a cylindrical bale. The baler includes: portable frame means having a forward end and a rearward end. Upright spaced side walls are mounted on the frame. Drum means are mounted in the frame means proximate the rearward end such drum, means being operable to pick up the hay and for rolling the hay into a cylindrical bale. Roller means are mounted in the frame mean, and are operable to compact the hay into the bale.
