This invention related to methods of reading tachograph charts. Such carts are sequentially read by a chart-reading equipment to derive signals representative of the information recorded on the charts. In order to identify these signals information has been manually entered into the chart-reading equipment to identify the information provided on the respective charts, the chart-reading equipment provided in respect of each chart a respective signal having a first part representative of the corresponding manually-entered identity and a second part representative of the information recorded on that chart.
