Abstract of the Disclosure, There is disclosed an improved method for producing low carboxyl high molecular weight polyesters prepared by the addition to and reaction of a monomeric carbonate with a polycondensation product derived from the reaction of a dicarboxylic acid or C1 to C4 alkyl ester thereof and a glycol the improvement comprising carrying out said reaction in the presence of a catalytic alkali metal salt compound.
