Protease-free proteins, especially protease-free kallikrein, are prepared by contacting a solution of the protein with a carrier-bound water-insoluble protease inhibitor that does not bind to said protein. The protease-free proteins have improved storage stability in solution, and are used therapeutically for the same purposes as the protein before treatment according to the invention.
