A detergent composition which may contain 2% to 40% of, active and 5% to 60% of builder is granulated, for example, by spray drying and then subjected to a densification, treatment. This treatment occurs in an apparatus having a rotatable base plate positioned at the base of a smooth vertical cylindrical side wall. The increase in bulk density achieved by densification allows ample compensation for changes in formulation. The final density can be selected.
