A method for the manufacture of a superconductor with a superconductive intermetallic compound consisting of at least two elements in which a ductile component of at least one element of the compound is brought into contact with a second component which contains a ductile carrier metal for the remaining elements of the compound after which the remaining elements of the compound are admitted to the second ductile component through a chemical transport reaction at elevated temperature the compound being formed, by a reaction of its remaining elements diffusing through the second compo-, nent with the first component.
